We are just over 4 weeks away from our inaugural php[world]! We know that a lot of you will be traveling in from a long distance (many internationally) and we want to make sure that you have the best experience.
If you want to visit downtown DC during your trip, it is easily accessible via the Silver Line on the Metro. We will have information sheets available at the conference to let you know about the local area and typical DC destinations.
But we don’t want you to have to leave the hotel if you don’t want! Much of the value of a conference is getting to network with your peers and make contacts that you will rely upon in the future. We have two evening activities planned to make sure that you can do just that:
On Wednesday night, after the reception is over and people have had time to find for dinner, we will be opening the keynote room back up and break out some board games for people to play. (The big screen may find a use as well for us during that time). It will be a great time to come and just hang out into the evening while getting to better know your fellow attendees.
On Thursday night, again after the reception has closed, we will be re-using one of the session rooms to host a late night hackathon! We will have multiple open source projects, and probably a few APIs represented. Show up, bring your laptop, and pick an open source project that needs some help. There will be people here who are ready to help you get started and contributing. If you are going to be attending the conference and would like to have your own open source project represented, drop us a line and we will get you on the list!
We are looking forward to seeing all of you in just a few scant weeks!
